Kitchen Appliances Worth Millions

Kitchens across British homes, have £2.6 billion of kitchen gadgets rusting in cupboards completely unused, according to research from Halifax Home Insurance.

From spice shakers to blenders, kitchens are filled with unused appliances. Men spend an average of £119 on unused kitchen appliances, a third more than women who spend around £88. Over a quarter of a million British households have more than £500 worth of abandoned kitchen gadgets stored away.

‘Toastie makers‘, top the list of unused kitchen gadgets abandoned in darkened cupboards, with 32 per cent of homes, having one, but not using it. While around 21 per cent of households with a blender haven’t used it in over a year. The lean, mean grilling machine spends more time on the shelf gathering dust than helping the nation lose weight in the 17 per cent of households that have the appliance. Around a fifth, (17 per cent) of those with steamers, juicers and electric carving knives never use them.

From scorching kitchen blow torches to electric carving knives slicing through worktops, kitchen gadgets often prove hazardous. More than £64 million of damage has been caused by cooks having accidents with appliances. Perhaps because they use gadgets without reading the instructions, men unfortunately live up to the stereotype of being klutzes in the kitchen causing one and a half times more damage than women.

David Rochester, Head of Underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance, said: “British kitchens are turning into a graveyard of unused gadgets. While Britons have the best intentions when buying kitchen gadgets, thousands of blenders, grills, steamers and juicers lie idle on worktops. Kitchen gadgets appear to have become merely decorative items in the kitchen for millions of wannabe chefs.â€

He added: “Britons should ensure they always read the instructions before firing up a blow torch or electric carving knife as they could cause extensive damage to their property and potentially injure the user. Electrical items should be checked carefully, especially if they haven’t been used for a long time to ensure the plugs, wiring and heating elements have not been damaged, which could cause a fire or electrocute the user.â€

On a regional basis those living in the South East have wasted the most money on unused kitchen gadgets (£119), closely followed by the North of England (£118). Thrifty Midlanders spend the least on unused kitchen appliances (£80).

Why High Powered Batteries Are Complementary for e Gadgets

Current age is better described as e-Age due to the impact of technology and science in life of every human being. This e-powered generation is more aware with the changes in technology in the field of electronics and telecommunication.

Everyday new devices are being launched in the market. New mobile phones with multiple multimedia and WAP enabled features, digital Cameras with Bluetooth technology to share or print photos directly from the Camera itself, Laptops with integrated Wi-Fi is now an old technology but they are now coming with strict security features like passwords with thumb impression and other latest features.

All these features helped people in making their life easier. Now you don’t have to be in queue to book a train or airlines ticket. They are available on just button away of your Mobile. If you are travelling for long time, and you are afraid of being bored without company, don’t worry you can have your best companion in form of your I-Pod or Video players. What you need is a high powered battery support system, to use all these features for long time.

The more features your gadgets are providing, the more energy sources they will need. Normal batteries are not able to provide the desired time of backup. So the companies are engaged in research for developing high capacity batteries, in order to serve that need new key technologies that are into use includes Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, Polymer, and Li-ion batteries.

Older electronic gadgets used disposable batteries, once discharged they were totally waste. It was loss of several resources. These days people prefer using rechargeable batteries, which can be recharged by electricity again and again. These batteries are more helpful for people because whenever they got discharge, one can recharge again by using AC adapters provided with those batteries as bundled. These kinds of batteries provide long time backup and have a long life. Polymer Li-ion batteries have longer backup time than other form of batteries, and they are used with PDAs, Notebook computers, Bluetooth devices, military uses and others.

There is continuous development in this field. Everyday newer technologies are coming into place to help mankind in using their electronic gadgets more effectively.

Blue Tooth Headset Named For Norway’s King

When King Harald Bluetooth, known as such due to the color of his teeth from his dietary habits, united Sweden and Denmark during his reign from 910 to 985 AD he was convinced that the unification would bring all the people together.

Over a thousand years later Ericsson Mobile Communications came up with the idea of bringing mobile phones and all their accessories into one technology for the betterment of their customers and named it after the Norwegian king. In 1998 Nokia, IBM, Toshiba and Intel joined Ericsson in forming a special interest group to develop this technology, which would allow all electronic devices to communicate. The name Bluetooth stuck and the technological advances led the communications world to where it is today.

Today there is a blue tooth headset for Cell Phones, as well as a wireless blue tooth headset for listening to music and movies. Many blue tooth headsets are in use using the Voice over Internet Protocol, which when used with a computer, is like having a wireless telephone used through the computer.

Many mobile devices such as Laptop computers, Cell Phones and telephones use blue tooth technology to communicate with other devices, all made possible by the research conducted by the early special interest group. The blue tooth headset is a direct result of its research and helped in other applications of the technology.

Advancements Improve Mobile Communications

The idea behind blue tooth technology was to allow various devices to communicate with each other over short distances. Initially there was no plan for long-range connectivity and the blue tooth headset was one of the first innovations to use blue tooth. It is now one of the leading short distance communication standards. A person wearing a blue tooth headset can answer their blue tooth-enabled Cell Phone without picking it up and they can walk around while talking without wires to tangle.

With infrared communications capabilities handheld personal data assistants can send information back and forth using direct line-of-sight, however the distance between them must be extremely short, typically about four or five inches. A blue tooth headset can operate usually up to 30 feet away from the transmitter.

Many of the blue tooth headsets used in conjunction with cell phones, by default, have only mono capabilities, keeping one ear free for what is going on around you. Stereo blue tooth headsets are available for when stereo capabilities is desirable.
